Have you ever wanted to be a prince or princess? Or how about an evil Disney Villain? This year’s musical made that happen for the Lodi community. Lodi High School had put on a production of Disney’s Descendants. With a packed auditorium and kids in awe, they had a wonderful performance. The musical was a performance that brought magic to Lodi. The musical is a great way for students to bond and have fun while making a musical that benefits the whole community.
The musical had a cast of about 41 people. All of them had made bonds that made unlikely friendships that last longer than the musical. Some said that the best part of the musical was making new friends. “My favorite part of the musical was definitely hanging out with my three fellow evils during the show, Emily (Evie), Simon (Jay), and Liam (Carlos). During rough times and late night rehearsals, their love and laughs kept me going and were some of the highlights not only of the musical, but of my year. They are my best friends and the biggest goofballs ever!” said junior Jaylin Bruening. The connections between the cast, crew, and pit were something that will stick with them forever.
Even though the musical was a fun activity to do, there were some difficult times that the cast powered through. With the long nights, stressful costume changes and wigs, the cast made the most of even the most difficult times. Some scenes were more difficult than others. For example, senior Chase Maas had said, “Definitely the last scene was definitely the hardest. Like the very last one of just nothing but choreography for like 15 minutes. It’s just like, it’s just one huge scene.” Performing in costumes and wigs was also difficult for the cast. “In general, it was hard to learn how to perform in a purple wig. Not only do you have a bunch of pins and glue on your head, it’s hard to control hair that’s not your own. There was a lot of eating my hair while singing during this show which I had to learn how to deal with while performing, but the wig looks awesome so it’s worth it.” claimed junior Jaylin Breunig. Even through all of the difficult moments and long nights, the cast of Descendants: the Musical persevere through and put on an amazing performance for our community.
In the end, the Lodi High School musical cast had put on a performance that will be in the memories of everyone. Through the late nights, difficult rehearsals, and costume troubles, they persevere through that all to make an amazing experience for everyone.
I would like to give a special thanks to Erica Barwell for making the musical happen this year for the Lodi High School Students
