Homecoming. It’s the best time of the year. It brings fun outfits, pep rallies, and the Friday night football game. But what happens behind the scenes? Who helps to bring the spirit? Those class t-shirts, the class banner, and the golf carts? These are all examples of what our class officers do to make our homecoming memorable and exciting.
Class officers are the representatives of your grade and one of the many things that they do during homecoming week is design the class t-shirts. This involves making a design. The design uses elements from the homecoming theme, and class officers are also given requirements based on shirt color. Then, they have to use their team’s skills to create something fun and cool to wear! Senior class officer Lexi Bishop comments, “I think designing my shirt is my favorite just because that’s something that people will keep. I still wear my freshman year homecoming shirt sometimes,” showing how the shirts create a sense of memory and unity, allowing classmates to show off their class pride.
Along with class t-shirts, they also get to create the class banners. Most of the time, they are related to the Friday night football game and use ideas from the homecoming theme. This year, the homecoming theme was Under The Sea. This allowed classmates and class officers to come together and create unique ideas representing the class and included funny slogans and sayings. First year junior class officer Jaylin Bruenig comments, “Many of the ideas the class officer team had were great ideas, but we didn’t know how to bring them to life until our artists transformed those ideas into these amazing projects,” Showing how the connection between the class and the class officers creates a sense of community and allows for their ideas to be represented to the fullest. Many of the themes that you will use are the connection between the class officers and different social circles, like the artists of their grade. This shows how many different people come together even though in most cases, they might not interact with one another.
The golf carts are one of the biggest events of the homecoming week. Even though it might not seem that way, the golf cart designs represent countless hours of designs, work, and commitment. This year, the juniors walked away with the win, with a very creative pirate cardboard design. Because these tasks take a long time, lots of people and coordination is needed to complete them, and the class officers come together to work on them. “They allowed me, Grayson, Aubrey, and Simon just to connect on a more personal level,” freshmen class officer Bryce Ballweg comments, focusing on how events like creating the golf carts allows for them to interact with each other more personally, getting to know one another, and working together on a better level.
These events combine to bring the school’s most cheerful, creative, and talented students together in order to represent this pride in our school and in their class. Sketches, planning, coordination, and the completion of the banners, golf carts, and t-shirts, all show the spirit of the class officers. These students take their time to work on these projects for the good of the class and make sure to do it in the class’s best interests. Homecoming is the best time of the year, and the class officers are the ones who design your shirts, your class golf cart, and your class banner. The class officers do everything in their power to make your homecoming memorable and exciting.
