Have you ever pulled an April Fool’s prank so good that people didn’t believe it was a joke? April Fool’s Day is a day filled with pranks and foolery that falls on April 1st every year. According to Wikipedia the true origin of this date is unknown and speculated to possibly never be known. The date resembles festivals such as Hilaria and Holi.
Businesses and workplaces love to play pranks every year and prank those who follow along. A well-known prank happened when BBC News aired a segment in 1957 that claimed that spaghetti was growing on trees. There was also a time in 1996 when Taco Bell told its audience that it had bought the Liberty Bell, an iconic bell that symbolizes American independence, and named it “Taco Liberty Bell”.
What was the best April Fool’s prank someone pulled on you? I asked two students at LHS. Cyrus Clemens, a sophomore, said that one time someone put a frog in one of his work boots. Keyton, a senior, said that someone once made him cry because their prank consisted of them convincing him it wasn’t April Fool’s Day.
Common pranks pulled on the date are the classic toothpaste in the Oreos and even the sponge instead of a cake, but what are some other pranks people have pulled? Cyrus said that the best prank he’s pulled was putting a snake in someone’s bed. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t be laughing if I found a snake in my bed. Keyton, on the other hand, said he put Saran Wrap on a toilet. Now that’s a harmless but messy prank!
Some people pull pranks on April Fool’s Day, and others don’t. I asked our interviewees what prank they have always wanted to pull but never have. Cyrus said, “I always wanted to put glue in someone’s brush or shoes, ” while Keyton told us he wants to cover someone’s face completely in Sharpie.
Ultimately, choosing to pull pranks is your choice, but if you do, make sure they are fun and harmless and not something that could put yourself or others in danger or trouble. Happy pranking!
