We are eagerly anticipating the upcoming powerlifting season, which Mr. Sheldon will coach. Powerlifting is a dynamic and competitive form of weightlifting that includes three distinct lifts performed in a specific order: the squat, the bench press, and the deadlift.
Coach Sheldon states, “A competitor’s best squat is added to their best bench press and deadlift to calculate their total score. The athlete with the highest combined total in their respective weight class is declared the winner.” This scoring system emphasizes not only individual performance in each lift but also the overall strength and strategy of the lifters. As we prepare for the challenges ahead, we are excited to hone our skills and strive for personal bests in this exhilarating sport.
Powerlifting is set to start on December 14th, featuring an exciting meet at Adams Friendship. A total of 10 athletes will be competing in this event, showcasing their strength and determination. Athletes have been preparing rigorously for this competition, and it promises to be an exhilarating day filled with impressive performances and sportsmanship.
Powerlifting is an excellent winter sport that focuses on building strength and increasing physical activity levels. According to Marley Redell, a powerlifter, one of the most appealing aspects of this sport is the flexibility it offers in training. She states, “You can make your schedule; the only requirement is to go into the weight room three times a week, and it’s nice to be able to choose.” This flexibility allows athletes to balance their training with other commitments, making it easier to stay consistent and engaged. Powerlifting not only enhances physical strength but also fosters a sense of discipline and accomplishment throughout the winter season.
We anticipate the upcoming powerlifting season and are filled with excitement and hope for all the athletes involved. We are hoping for each competitor to not only achieve their personal best but also to experience significant growth and improvement in their overall performance. We believe that with dedication, hard work, and the right mindset, everyone can reach new heights in their powerlifting journey this season.
