Tis the season to turn on the fire, engulf yourself with a warm blanket and watch Christmas classics. Home Alone, The Santa Clause, The Grinch, and debatably Die Hard as some of the notable classics that come to mind. Today we will be diving into some of LHS minds and online critics to find some the best Christmas movies out there so you can ditch Hallmark, and go right to the good stuff and watch the movies you may have already seen, or watch the ones you may have never seen before.
The top rated holiday movies on IMDb include 1946 It’s a Wonderful Life, Die Hard, and A Christmas Carol as the top three rated of all time. But if you look into Rotten Tomatoes score only one of them reaching the top ten. IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes are arguably the best way to check out reviews and ratings. How we will be seeing the best christmas movies you need to watch this season, we will be looking at IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, and Time out. How the scoring will work is if you are in the top 10 you get one point, if you put in the 4 and 5 spot that is 1.5 points, and for 3, 2, 1 will be getting half points every spot. So the max amount of points you can get is 3 points for being number 1. If the film get the same score but mentioned twice, they would get put beyond the film that only is put the one time in that one ranking.

Looking at the list there are some major upsets, and lots of films that didn’t make the top 10. Some honorable mentions that didn’t make it was Rudolph the Red Nose Raindeer, Klaus, and National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. There was a total of 21 different films mentioned in the top 10 of these rankings, and only one of them got mentioned in all 3, and 6 of them being mentioned twice.
Looking at the list there is only two films that was made beyond the 2000 being Elf and The Holdovers. Which shows how nostalgic christmas movies can be for generation after generation. So warm up your hot coco, get your warmest comfiest blankets, and turn the TV and put on some holiday classics.
