Black Friday is a shopping day on the Friday after Thanksgiving. This year, in 2024, Black Friday falls on November 29th, with the exception of Amazon, whose sales start around November 22nd. Many stores worldwide have sales that last up to the Monday after Black Friday, also known as Cyber Monday. The average Black Friday discount is about 25%, but depending on the item and store, it could be up to 70 or 80%.
We asked some people at LHS what stores they go to on Black Friday and what the best stores to go to are. Jayden Millin, a student at LHS said “Me and my mom normally go to Kohl’s, Walmart, and just really anything open”. We asked what the main stores people go to in general are and she said, “I think a lot of people go to Best Buy and Walmart the most”. Mrs. Robarge, an art teacher at LHS said she used to shop all over the place but now mainly shops online. “I shop online at Target sometimes, Old Navy sometimes, H&M, but I guess it just depends on who has the best deals”. The most popular stores on Black Friday are JCPenney, Kohl’s, and Walmart.
Now you might be asking, what deals are the best to look for? Overall very popular items to shop for during Black Friday are electronics, clothing, accessories, and cosmetics. When we asked Jayden what deals she thinks are the best to look for she said “Definitely the stuff that you wouldn’t wanna buy at regular price. Like the items you have been waiting to go on sale for forever”. On the other hand, Mrs. Robarge agreed and said, “Appliances are usually a lot cheaper like computers and TVs and that sort of thing”. If you want to know where to go on Black Friday to get the best deals it is recommended to go to places with appliances or electronics or places with highly-priced items.
What do you normally shop for during Black Friday? Normally people shop for clothes, electronics, and cosmetics because they have some of the best deals. Jayden says, “Personally I just go shopping like it’s any other day but I’m on a budget this time because everything is cheap”. While Mrs. Robarge shops for specific items such as, “Christmas gifts, toys for kids, clothes, or something that’s for the house that’s very expensive.”
Commonly seen are lots of expensive and popular items that go on sale. This sometimes causes chaos throughout stores because people want these items before other people get to them. If you go Black Friday shopping, be responsible and watch out for crazy shoppers!
