Lodi hockey’s Co-op team, the South Central Navigators, is hitting the ice! The season starts November 11th, with the first game on November 26th. We interviewed two seniors on the South Central Navigators team, one player and one manager. We asked what their goals are for this season and their favorite hockey memories from their high school careers.
Let’s go over the basics of hockey before we get into the interviews. The goal of hockey is to score in the other team’s net and not let the other team score in yours. There are lines that include six players per line. There are many lines with different players on it. There are a lot of different lines that help do certain things on the ice. For example, the first line usually consists of the best offensive players on the ice.
First, we interviewed Nick. Nick has been playing on our team all four years of high school, and he said that his personal goal for the season is to be in the top two lines on varsity. He stated that the team’s goal is to get double-digit points on the scoreboard and to win more games overall. We followed up by asking what they are doing in the Sunday practices to work on these skills and he stated they are “working on conditioning and basic skills,” Nick also said that it is captain’s practice meaning the captain of the team chooses what they will work on. The final question we asked him was what his favorite hockey memory is from high school hockey and he said “Scoring against Beaver Dam.”
The final person we interviewed is Addison Woolley who has been a part of this team for 3 years. The first question we asked was what her goals as a manager are this season. Addison states that she wants to “make sure they’re all happy helping more with smaller details” (things like team dinners or pregame food). The second question we asked was what her most memorable moment was in her time as a hockey manager. She said her most memorable moments were all of the team hangouts like when they went bowling. Another was when a player named Carter “drank a whole gallon of chocolate milk.”
We are very excited to say the South Central Navigators season is starting November 11th with the first game being November 26th at Viroqua. JV will start at 5:00 and Varsity will be at 7:00. Hope to see you there!
