While most students are just beginning their day, the Lodi FFA is already a whirlwind of activity. Fueled by a passion for agriculture, they prepare for their Day on the Farm event and share the infectious excitement of the National Convention. This group of dedicated students, with their unwavering commitment, has not just made a mark but has transformed their community with their significant contributions. Let’s delve into the vibrant heart of the Lodi FFA.
First, junior Summer Rake tells us about the Lodi FFA’s impact on the agriculture industry this year. As this year’s FFA president, she helps promote the amazing industry of which the FFA is a part. Rake has done so much for the FFA by planning the events and making such an impact on teaching young kids.
“I think overall, the Lodi FFA has accomplished many good things this year, which we have done in previous years to help promote and represent the ag industry. I think the impact we have is more far-reaching than we think. There are so many people out there that can be changed by our industry and open their eyes to numerous opportunities that weren’t available before,” Rake said.
Next, freshman Josie Varney, who serves as this year’s middle school advisor, shared her favorite memories and why they were special to her. Josie has been a big role model for the agriculture industry, as she is the face of the middle school FFA. Josie has taught future FFA kids the basics of the industry and its impact.
“National Convention because it was my first time being there and my first year as an officer, so it had a bigger impact on the whole moment. It was awesome and a totally new experience for me, as I saw everything on a bigger scale. So you see problems that American agriculture is facing compared to Wisconsin agriculture,” Varney said.
FFA Advisor Mr. Anderson, a guiding light for the Lodi FFA, will outline the organization’s past and future goals. He has always been a supportive presence, allowing the students to take the lead in shaping their community.
“I think the Lodi FFA has achieved most of their goals this year. It has been a success. We have different goals for every different event. But overall, the big goal is to increase the number of active members, and we have done that since last year, and with high-quality agriculture events, I think we have done that,” Anderson said. “For next year’s goals, I think I will leave that up to next year’s officer team to decide.”
