As the school year draws to a close, many students prepare for their upcoming AP tests. These tests are not just another exam; they hold immense importance, as they can earn students college credits based on their scores. This is a significant opportunity to save time and money on future college expenses. However, preparing for these college-level exams can be challenging and stressful for students.
Junior Abigail Strong has taken multiple AP tests and suggested some tips and tricks to help students feel more confident. She said, “You never feel truly prepared; the tests are supposed to be college-level. But there are ways to feel more confident.”
The tests are scored on a scale of 1-5, with one being the lowest and five being the highest. It’s up to the students to decide whether to take these tests, usually offered at the end of their AP courses.
Lodi High School offers various AP courses, including Abigail’s classes, such as APUSH and AP Pre-Calculus. Students have many academic opportunities to choose from. The test schedule is as follows:
– Monday, May 6: US Government and Politics
– Tuesday, May 7: Human Geography
– Wednesday, May 8: English Literature and Composition
– Thursday, May 9: Environmental Science and Psychology
– Friday, May 10: US History
– Monday, May 13: Calculus and Pre-Calculus
– Tuesday, May 14: English Language and Composition
– Wednesday, May 15: Modern World History
– Thursday, May 16: Biology
The tests will be held over two weeks, some starting at 8 a.m. and others later. Preparing for these tests can be daunting, but with the proper preparation, it can be a smooth process. Many teachers offer practice and study help, which can be invaluable. Strong suggested, “Always read the textbook, especially for history classes. Those tests have very minute details. Go to the teacher’s study groups and be sure to ask questions when you don’t understand something.”
Students should also review past homework, quizzes, and other materials to prepare for exams. On test day, students should rest well, eat a healthy breakfast, and stay relaxed. With the proper preparation and mindset, students can ace their AP tests and earn their college credits.
