So far into the 2023 JV and varsity boys soccer season, it’s off to a strong start. In recent years, Lodi’s scores have had many ups and downs. The 2021 season’s score was 7-7-5 and placing 4th in conference, and the next year (2022), the overall score was 6-10-4, ending 8th in conference. So far scores are at 7-2.
Varsity is doing well but JV is also having a rise and fall. The goalkeeper for JV, freshman Jacob Allen , said, “Right now one of our biggest strengths is probably offense and just passing it between each other.” Another JV player, freshman Nathan Robbins, who plays center back, agrees with Jacob’s statement word for word. Robbins and Allen also agreed that for JV, Sugar River is their main rival for the season so far.
Recently, the JV team beat Lakeside Lutheran Prep 5-0, and Lodi’s varsity beat Lutheran’s varsity team 7-1. Varsity’s other recent win was against Cambridge 6-0. With these wins, this should hopefully encourage both teams to reach the goal of conference. Even junior
Ryan Rolfe, a forward/striker, said, “For varsity, we can hopefully win conference and then state.” Also, senior Evan Clary is a midfielder/defensive player, and as a shoutout for his strong plays on the right side, by clearing the ball with headers and strong passes for the wingers.
Lodi’s soccer season isn’t over yet, but so far it’s surpassing last year’s. Starting off with records, last year varsity tied with Lake Mills, but this year winning 3-1 against them. Also the past year, Lodi soccer played Belleville winning 2-0, but again this year, Lodi came for revenge with a 3-0 win.
Why is conference important? If you have been in the gym you will notice the big blue signs, those signs are championships and conference wins. Not only that but bragging rights are essential. Lodi Boys Soccer this year has surpassed past years. Well, so far they are off to a great start and, we wish them luck.
