Halloween is coming up again, and everyone knows what that means: Scary movies! We’ve assembled a list of the ten best PG and PG-13 scary movies. Fair warning, though, just because the movies are PG and PG-13 doesn’t mean they’re for the faint of heart. We’ve got classics, newer releases, and even some you might remember from your childhood. Without further ado, here are our picks for you this Halloween, in no particular order.

1. The Boy (2016)

A girl escaping an abusive relationship takes a babysitting job from a wealthy family, only to discover that the child she’s supposed to take care of is a doll. She accepts the job regardless, but soon discovers the dark secrets that lie within the doll.

2. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019)

Local tales of a haunted family mansion drive a group of young teens to go and investigate. As they explore, they find a mysterious book filled with short horror stories. Little do they know, these stories are happening in real life.

3. Insidious series (2010-2018)

An unsuspecting family moves into a new house, only to realize it’s haunted. Their son soon turns sick, and they realize he may be possessed by an evil entity.

4. Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)

A circus tent-shaped spaceship lands near a small town. Soon, klowns start kidnapping people using their whimsical clown-themed weaponry. A classic must-watch horror comedy.

5. The Ring (2002)

Rumors of a videotape that kills anyone who watches it turn out to be more than just rumors. After a reporter investigates the story, she watches the tape and has only seven days to uncover the secrets of the tape.

Having interviewed Amy Jelinek about which movie was her favorite, she had this to say about The Ring: “I watched The Ring one time almost twenty years ago, and to this day, I still think about that creepy little girl, Samara, who was thrown down the well any time I’m in a dark, scary place.”

6. Cloverfield series (2008-20018)

This anthology series covers everything from a monster movie to a dark alternate reality. Beloved by many, this series is impossible to talk about without spoiling, so I implore you to go watch it yourself if you’re curious.

7. Little Shop of Horrors (1986)

An employee at a struggling flower shop discovers a strange plant. Soon he realizes the plant only feeds on human flesh, but it is attracting more business to the flower shop.

8. Poltergeist (1982)

An average California family finds ghosts communicating with them through their TV set. At first, the ghosts are friendly, but soon they turn evil and start terrorizing the family.

9. Coraline (2009)

A girl unsatisfied with her life finds a small door in the wall which takes her to a fantastical world where everything is perfect and filled with everything she could ever want, but not all is as it seems.

After interviewing Audrey Pierce, she said this movie was her favorite. “I like that it brings a new perspective into what horror can be. It’s a horror movie projected for kids but adults can watch it too and be scared.”

10. Arachnophobia (1990)

An arachnophobe and his wife move into a new home. Unbeknownst to them, there’s a deadly spider infestation brewing right under their noses as town residents start dying mysteriously.
